My kind of place to while the evening away

If you’re looking for a place with the ambience of a drawing room and the sophistication of a gentleman’s club to sip on a cocktail and while away the evening, look no further than Scarfes Bar. Evoking a convivial and sophisticated yet intimate atmosphere, and located a short distance from London’s Covent Garden, Scarfes Bar is the place for those looking for a bit of mischievous glamour.

Taking its name after the renowned British artist and caricaturist Gerald Scarfe, whose original artwork adorns the walls and is encompassed within the cocktail menus, the bar has become an institution on High Holborn since opening in 2014. Featuring a roaring fire, a collection of cosy velvet armchairs, shelves filled with over 1,000 hand-picked antique books, and live jazz playing each day, the ambience at Scarfes Bar carries a whisper of speakeasy intrigue – elegant, intimate, and just a little wicked.

From the left, Gibson Please, Garden Smash and No7, just three of the 22 cocktails on offer at Scarfes Bar.

The current inventive cocktail menu has drawn inspiration from the history and exalted traditions of cocktails…

Whiskies from home and afar

A few years ago, it seemed that whisky (or whiskey, I leave it up to you) had lost favour with the public and was only consumed in rarefied circles by rarefied people. But the fact is that nothing could be further from the truth. In the UK, we love whisky and we drink it with […]

However, […]

A long running affair

Most whisky enthusiasts will know Macallan, however, an appreciation of its long and rich history should also be acknowledged. In 19th-century Scotland, the Crown was steadily increasing the taxes for whisky distillers which eventually drove many of them underground. Illegal distilleries were common, and they were churning out sub-standard variations due to their fear of […]
