Parmigiani Fleurier doesn’t do flashy. Its strength lies in understatement – timepieces that whisper luxury rather than shout it. The new Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Rose Gold Sandstone continues that tradition with impeccable poise, offering sun-drenched elegance underpinned by serious mechanical muscle.
At a glance, it’s pure Mediterranean. The 42mm case in 18kt rose gold plays beautifully with light thanks to alternating polished and satin finishes. The silver guilloché dial – Parmigiani’s signature triangular nail motif – is punctuated by soft sandstone sub-dials, giving the piece a mellow, sun-kissed warmth. It’s a colour palette that conjures Sicilian coastlines, terracotta rooftops and the kind of long lunches where time pleasantly slips away.
But make no mistake, this is no idle holiday accessory. Inside beats the PF070 movement, a high-frequency chronograph engine operating at 5Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour), COSC-certified for precision and boasting a 65-hour power reserve. The column wheel construction and 22ct rose gold skeletonised rotor confirm it means business.

Where this model really asserts its sport credentials is in the strap. Made from high-grade rubber, it’s styled to echo “Cordura”, the rugged textile favoured in performance gear. The result? A corduroy-like texture that’s as tactile as it is tough. Hand-finished with saddle stitching and rendered in a soft “Tufo” hue (named after a pale Mediterranean volcanic stone), it brings a quietly adventurous spirit to the whole ensemble.
Elegant, athletic and effortlessly refined, the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Rose Gold Sandstone feels like summer, bottled – or rather, bevelled. It’s for those who want precision without the pomp, style without shout, and a watch that knows how to let its guard down – just a little – when the sun’s out.
