Founded in 2002 by Danish Morten Linde and Jorn Werdelin, Linde Werderlin was born with the idea of developing a luxury sports watch that could be combined with a digital instrument to provide information for skiing or diving.
They regularly work with professional mountaineers and divers for product-testing and development and in 2007, Linde Werdelin watches and instruments were used on the first-ever confirmed free climb to the summit of Mount Everest.
Within their three collections: 3 Timer, Oktopus and Spido, they produce limited editions of up to 100 pieces. This summer, the family has extended with the arrival of the Oktopus Nord and the SpidoLite Nord. Both inspired by the almost black waters of the North Sea, the black/blue fumé dials on these two mirror-image pieces feature varied gradations of these two colours; the dial surrounded by a sandblasted, highly anti-corrosive, titanium grade 2 case.
Each piece can be paired with a range of straps, including a natural rubber strap made with 30% recycled rubber, representing Linde Werdelin’s efforts to use the most sustainable materials they can source.
Oktopus Nord
Powered by the modified Dubois Dépraz double date movement, the Oktopus Nord boasts a full titanium grade 2 case for the first time (all previous models of this generation have a ceramic bezel).
The Oktopus Nord is powered by a customised automatic Dubois Dépraz caliber 14580 with a 40 to 44-hour power reserve.
Linde Werdelin’s divers thoroughly tested this highly technical watch submerging it to great depths (down to 300 metres) and proving it can resist any corrosion normally associated with submersion in saltwater.
The case construction is inspired by diving bells. A central piece containing the movement symbolises protection of life while the outer case parts serve functionality. The upper part of its two-layer is laser-cut in stencil technique with both layers individually handcrafted to create the gradations in blue and black. The hands are in stainless steel with a satin finish and ultramarine luminova. Black tachymeter. Numbers 3,6,9,12 in ultramarine luminova. Small indexes in white. Calendar wheels in black.

SpidoLite Nord
The SpidoLite family focuses on extreme weight reduction. Invented in 2008 and inspired by an expedition to Mount Everest in 2007, the Spido family is designed to balance strength with lightness and optimise performance, particularly in high altitude pursuits.
The beating heart of this watch is a customised movement developed with the Jacquet’s family-owned factory Concepto with 42 hours power reserve, the SpidoLite Nord includes ceramic bearings as well as a strengthened balance wheel to maximise reliability.
The watch showcases a two-part skeletonised black/blue Nord fumé dial, a combination also used in the sub-dial for seconds. The hands have diamond-cut galvanic treating.
The SpidoLite Nord is entirely crafted in titanium grade 2 with microbillé and satin finish on the case.
It is entirely crafted in titanium grade 2, with a sandblasted finish on the case and made of 19 components. It features a two-part skeletonised Nord fumé dial and see-through sapphire crystal caseback.

As with all Linde Werdelin watches, the Oktopus and SpidoLite Nords are available with a range of interchangeable straps in different colours and textures. My favourite for these two are midnight blue, pitch black or snow white.
