10 Years Of Blade

by Julia Pasarón

Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, Casadei is gearing up to tribute the iconic Blade heel by collaborating with Ellen von Unwerth and our very own fashion director, Sascha Lilic, for a unique collection of campaign imagery.

As the name suggests, the heel is sharp with a steel design. Contrary to what you may think, you can actually walk on Blade. Most models are 115mm (4.5 inches) tall but have a 10mm (0.4 inches) concealed platform which makes all the difference in terms of comfort. Blade has become a trademark for Casadei over the last decade, being a symbol of femininity, seduction and female empowerment.

We are really proud of the 10-year anniversary of the Blade, it is a huge achievement for the brand. I have always worked very closely with my father Cesare, and this is a true family story. Like links in a chain, I can see the steps of generations of our Casadei family, woven into the narrative, and we are very happy to celebrate and share this heritage with everyone. The Blade is an iconic style that exists thanks to our artisans, our family history, and the love for what we do…

Since 2012 these thrilling heels have garnered a close-knit fan-base and have become a firm favourite with the stars, such as Jennifer Lopez, Hailey Bieber, Angelina Jolie, Zendaya, Heidi Klum and Taraji P Henson, both on and off the red carpet. Blade continues to be a huge success, remaining a key reference point for all shoe lovers around the world, whilst withstanding the wave of trends.

Recalling the creation process, Sascha comments, “When I was contacted by Cesare Casadei to collaborate in such a milestone anniversary, I thought of Blade as a design object per se, not just as a shoe. We also drew inspiration from the film Bladerunner, as I find many parallels between what we wanted to do with the Blade and the futuristic designs in the clothes and accessories featured in the Ridley Scott film.”

The blade-sharp heel continues to be reinvented through the inspiration of Cesare Casadei. Each season the heel is reimagined through studying new variants, cementing it as the inevitable core piece in every collection. Today, reaching the tenth anniversary, the designer pays homage with an exclusive capsule collection containing extraordinary pieces to mark this important anniversary – transparent vinyl is crafted for styles such as an ankle boot and a cuissard, along with a geometric cut-out sandal, available in black and white. These spectacular creations, as well as the Spring-Summer 2022 collection, have been captured through the unmistakable lens of Ellen von Unwerth.
