The idea of wearing something dazzling for the day is nothing new, fashion has long promoted the image of a beaded skirt teamed with a cashmere sweater, but now trends are pushing the concept further by elevating daywear with the sparkle of precious jewels, yet still making it acceptable as a daytime look. High jewellery pieces like the Chanel No5 diamond pendant and De Beers’ fringed fancy coloured diamond collar and earrings look uber-modern when slipped under a white shirt of over a tank top, as do diamond heart-shaped earrings with a wrap dress. As women are increasingly buying jewellery for themselves, they are re-setting the rules. If they want to blaze it by day but limit it to a subtle diamond riviere necklace or small earrings for evening, then that’s their privilege.
