A new dawn

In the last four weeks, between the multimedia campaign, the new logo and the partial reveal of the Type 00, Jaguar has probably been in the news more often than in the last four years put together. The dramatic change of direction taken by the brand has divided opinion not just in the UK, but everywhere in the world where Jaguar has an iconic status, including Europe, the USA, and China.

Since the first Jaguar rolled off the production line in 1935, the idea was to make fast cars and push boundaries. And that is exactly what they did. The XK120 (1948) was the fastest road car of its time and the 1961 E-Type, one of the most beautiful ever designed. Jaguar also invented disc brakes and has won Le Mans seven times.

Like the animal from which it took its name, Jaguar is about speed, elegance and performance. The brand has fanatic devotees in all seven continents. Models like the XK120, XK140, XK150, and the E-Type have become icons in the collector world. For fans and collectors alike, Jaguar cars are more…

This year, Parmigiani Fleurier presented the Armoriale Répétition Mystérieuse, a masterpiece that merges artistic beauty with exceptional acoustic engineering. This luxury watch has been designed as a limited series of five ultra-slim unique […]

A world’s first in timekeeping

Globetrotters have always faced the problem of adjusting their watches when clocks go forward by an hour on the last Saturday of March. The reason is of course, that only 70 countries in the world do it, so if you are someone who travels across time zones as if they were stopovers in a cruise, […]

Every journey is an adventure

Few cars are as immediately recognisable as the Mercedes G-Class. Its tough, retro, boxy appearance – together with its considerable size – give it a road presence that’s difficult to ignore. Inside, the off-roader is as luxurious and comfortable as one would expect of a top-of-the-range Mercedes. All the advances technology provides in terms of […]

Italian in body and soul

Having heard very high praise for the Alfa Romeo Giulia from several of my petrol-head friends, I felt compelled to experience it by myself. After driving it for a few days, I completely understand why. This is a very good looking 4-door saloon both inside and outside, and a thrill to drive. In terms of […]

The transient beauty of flowers

Every spring throughout Japan, busy citizens take time out to enact an age-old tradition: hanami. People flock in droves to parks, walkways, and gardens – wherever sakura (cherry blossom) blooms – to celebrate flowers that symbolise hope and new life. The ancient custom has its roots in the peasant’s belief that the gods of the […]

Over these 25 years, Tissot has created a series of watches that celebrate the excitement of racing and the qualities it requires: precision, passion, power; all of […]

The start of a revolution

When Roger Smith, Mike France and Alistair Audsley founded the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers in October 2020, their intention was to champion and represent the interests of British watch and clock makers, nurture the talent and promote the sector around the world. Less than four years later, the association has 93 trade members, 44 of which took part […]

Time full of magic

What could sound like the start of a joke: “George Bamford, Davide Cerrato and the English brothers walk into a room…” was actually the genesis of something quite magical, the Bremont Bamford Aurora. Let me give you some background here. Nick and Giles English, founders of Bremont watches, are well-known for their sense of adventure, […]

The new gold standard

It was a symbol of its time, the decade of excess, the 1980s, when financial markets were uncoupled from national dictates, the world was simply not enough, and Wall Street was symbolic of everything the new finance world could offer. Gordon Gecko’s war cry of “Greed is good” was seen as the justification for unshackled […]

The horological world celebrates Chinese New Year

The traditional Chinese calendar is a complex system, developed over millennia, according to astronomical phenomena and calculations of the correlation of the solar and lunar cycles. Typical features of early calendars included the use of the sexagenary cycles based on the rotation of 10 Heavenly Stems and 12 Earthly Branches (the animal zodiac signs). At […]
