Celebrating our blue-green bauble home on Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, we feel it is appropriate to bring you the recently released MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase, a first in terms of our planet’s appearance from space featuring as a complication in a wristwatch. It celebrates the first time that human eyes saw our planet rising on the horizon, a photograph taken by Bill Anders aboard the Apollo 8 on Christmas Eve 1968.

Without a doubt, the Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch collaboration has been one of the noted new watch series in the 2020s. It cleverly uses the design codes of Omega’s iconic Speedmaster, the first watch on the Moon, with an innovative bioceramic material in an array of colours that incorporate space mission themes. It started with a collection including our satellite, all planets – including Earth – and the Sun in March 2022. They were an immediate success.

Similar in design and colouring to the Speedmasters worn by astronauts, the Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase on its Velcro strap.

New iterations were released in 2023 and 2024, but this year, when it came to our planet, the creatives at the Swatch…

Raging against the dying V10 light

The new Lamborghini Temerario – named after a Spanish bull that fought in the arena of Madrid in 1875 – is a crucial model for Lamborghini, designed to take over the super sports car baton from the Huracán. The Huracán is nearing the end of production with a full order book. Nearly 30,000 units of the […]

A new dawn

In the last four weeks, between the multimedia campaign, the new logo and the partial reveal of the Type 00, Jaguar has probably been in the news more often than in the last four years put together. The dramatic change of direction taken by the brand has divided opinion not just in the UK, but […]

It was a pact of Faustian proportions: learn to measure time so you can organise your days, weeks, years, your whole life even; but in return you will know your time is finite. As the arbiter of our limited time on Earth, it makes sense to find representations of Death on the device we most […]

Alinghi America’s Cup limited edition Speedmaster

A watch firm and an America’s Cup yachting team from the same country sound like quite a winning combination and that is exactly what happened to Ernesto Bertarelli’s Team Alinghi, sailing out of the Société Nautique de Genève back in 2003. Switzerland was the first land-locked nation to hold the Auld Mug (as the world’s […]

The dazzling beauty of a micromechanical wonder

Despite its vintage, the Jaeger LeCoultre 101 watch that is produced today is much the same as it was when first made but for a few adjustments along the way. The 101 harks back to a bygone age where etiquette decreed that a lady was only to wear a watch during the daytime, not for […]

In a sense it seems obvious to design a watch around Bauhaus principles. As its central axiom, the Bauhaus movement attempted a unification of individual artistic vision with principles of mass production and everyday function. Think of it this way, any object designed under Bauhaus principles should look aesthetically complete but equally functional in its […]

Lamborghini serves up La Dolce Vita in Porto Cervo

Lamborghinis rarely arrive late, but better late than never. For the second year running, the supercar marque has pitched up in Porto Cervo to make the most of the shortest summer on record and cram as much of the good life as they can into a couple of months. Social distancing in a Lambo seems […]
