Celebrating our blue-green bauble home on Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, we feel it is appropriate to bring you the recently released MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase, a first in terms of our planet’s appearance from space featuring as a complication in a wristwatch. It celebrates the first time that human eyes saw our planet rising on the horizon, a photograph taken by Bill Anders aboard the Apollo 8 on Christmas Eve 1968.

Without a doubt, the Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch collaboration has been one of the noted new watch series in the 2020s. It cleverly uses the design codes of Omega’s iconic Speedmaster, the first watch on the Moon, with an innovative bioceramic material in an array of colours that incorporate space mission themes. It started with a collection including our satellite, all planets – including Earth – and the Sun in March 2022. They were an immediate success.

Similar in design and colouring to the Speedmasters worn by astronauts, the Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase on its Velcro strap.

New iterations were released in 2023 and 2024, but this year, when it came to our planet, the creatives at the Swatch…

Raging against the dying V10 light

The new Lamborghini Temerario – named after a Spanish bull that fought in the arena of Madrid in 1875 – is a crucial model for Lamborghini, designed to take over the super sports car baton from the Huracán. The Huracán is nearing the end of production with a full order book. Nearly 30,000 units of the […]

A new dawn

In the last four weeks, between the multimedia campaign, the new logo and the partial reveal of the Type 00, Jaguar has probably been in the news more often than in the last four years put together. The dramatic change of direction taken by the brand has divided opinion not just in the UK, but […]

Founded in 2002 by Danish Morten Linde and Jorn Werdelin, Linde Werderlin was born with the idea of developing a luxury sports watch that could be combined with a digital instrument to provide information for skiing or diving. They regularly work with professional mountaineers and divers for product-testing and development and in 2007, Linde Werdelin […]

Last of an era

July 6th witnessed the global launch of the very last petrol car to be manufactured by Lotus. The brand, founded by Colin Chapman in 1948 has always been synonymous with automotive performance, lightweight and fine handling. The brand quickly earned a cachet among car fans, which translated into numerous appearances in television series and films, […]

Aston Martin’s recently established Grand Prix team might only be sixth in the current championship standings, but the first road car to emerge from Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll’s ownership has gone straight into pole position. The new Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition is like a Porsche GT3 with superior tailoring; a perfect balance of Debrett’s […]

60 Years in the life of a British icon

It has been 60 years since the iconic Jaguar E-Type was first launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961. The public reaction to the long coupé available for test drives was so strong that Jaguar rushed a second E-Type, a roadster, from Coventry to Geneva overnight. Famously described as “the most beautiful car ever […]

Release your inner beast

Last year saw the launch of the first SUV in the 107-year history of the iconic British brand. Sceptics may have to eat humble pie because the Aston Martin DBX has sold like doughnuts at a school gate… worldwide. At 5,039 mm L x 1,998 mm W x 1,680 mm H, this is certainly a big vehicle but […]

Feadship and Nauta Design unveil the future of superyacht innovation

Yacht design has become increasingly imaginative and futuristic. What was once a relatively staid world of one design fits all, irrespective of the length of the vessel, has in recent years developed into a discipline akin to conceiving Captain Nemo’s Nautilus – “the sword of the sea” – or the latest Bond villain’s command deck from which to […]

An eternal love affair

Cars and watches go together like strawberries & cream, Bonnie & Clyde or champagne & oysters. The association makes sense. Motorsport and horology share key elements: mechanical precision, innovative materials, complex engineering and the most refined aesthetics. By the mid-20th century, watch brands were not only timing famous races around the world but were also sponsoring […]

The 1970s are often referred to as “the decade that style forgot”. Look at men’s fashions of the time – not just the elephantine bell-bottomed trousers, but also oversized lapels and collars on jackets and shirts. If you lived through it, as I did, it seemed as if everything which wasn’t corduroy was velvet – […]

Watches & Wonders is the sort of name only the watch industry could come up with but, whilst there were few actual wonders at the annual trade fair, there were some very good, creative and even imaginative designs on show. And seeing so many new watches in one go provides a snapshot of where the […]
