My kind of place to while the evening away

If you’re looking for a place with the ambience of a drawing room and the sophistication of a gentleman’s club to sip on a cocktail and while away the evening, look no further than Scarfes Bar. Evoking a convivial and sophisticated yet intimate atmosphere, and located a short distance from London’s Covent Garden, Scarfes Bar is the place for those looking for a bit of mischievous glamour.

Taking its name after the renowned British artist and caricaturist Gerald Scarfe, whose original artwork adorns the walls and is encompassed within the cocktail menus, the bar has become an institution on High Holborn since opening in 2014. Featuring a roaring fire, a collection of cosy velvet armchairs, shelves filled with over 1,000 hand-picked antique books, and live jazz playing each day, the ambience at Scarfes Bar carries a whisper of speakeasy intrigue – elegant, intimate, and just a little wicked.

From the left, Gibson Please, Garden Smash and No7, just three of the 22 cocktails on offer at Scarfes Bar.

The current inventive cocktail menu has drawn inspiration from the history and exalted traditions of cocktails…

My first choice for a splendid Christmas present is something to warm the cockles of your heart, perfect to celebrate the day and then see in the New Year. A new single malt whisky from a distillery on the land where whisky was first made in 1494 is not a bad place to start. Lindores […]

Our choice of champagnes for this Christmas

This is definitely the season to be merry and no drink expresses joy better than champagne. The famous beverage is thought to have been invented by the French monk Dom Pierre Perignon in 1697 when he applied his “methode champenoise” to the wines produced at the abbey of Hautvilliers. By the late 17th century, as […]

9, Park Walk. London SW10 0AJ

I am a big fan of Asian food but I must admit I find tedious the fact that most restaurants seem to come out of the same design book with black and red lacquer everywhere, gold trimmings and Chinese lamps; either that or a plethora of Budas on display wherever you lay your eyes. HUŎ […]

Coffee by design

Having experienced the hospitality and the delicacies served at the Lavazza flagship store in Milan, I couldn’t wait for their London counterpart to open. Spread over three floors and located in a historical building just opposite Liberty’s in the heart of London, this is a beautifully designed space that goes far beyond our normal understanding […]

A new chapter in the history of Brut Premier

The first example of Roederer’s new multi-vintage champagne, Louis Roederer Collection 242, is a wine that reveals the power of blending and expresses the direction in which the Maison is taking the brand. With the creation of Collection, Louis Roederer wants to write a new chapter in the history of Brut Premier, one that invites […]
