A modest front, a superb cellar

Nestled in the heart of Covent Garden, Bedford Street Wines looks too inviting not to go in. Although it is very small, the space is cleverly used and the atmosphere effortlessly relaxed.  High stools, wine barrels doubling as tables, and a communal table that anchors the room, together with shelves stacked with wines from all over the world make for the unfussy décor of the bar. It’s the kind of place you could drop by after work, settle in before a theatre show, or visit just to find a bottle that’ll impress at your next dinner party.

Bedford Street Wines is run by Rob Hampton and Matt Lovell, the duo behind The Oystermen restaurant, and their passion for good wine and good food is evident in every corner.

Their wine selection is extensive, thoughtfully curated with a clear affection for small producers, family-run vineyards, and craft beers. It’s as much about buying a bottle as it is about discovering something new with the help of people who know and care about what they’re pouring.

When we arrived, the sheer range was slightly overwhelming. Thankfully,…

A tribute to a woman of strength and spirit

Renowned Champagne house Louis Roederer releases its 2022 vintage “Hommage à Camille” wines: Camille Charmont 2022 (red) and Camille Volibarts 2022 (white).  The woman behind the brand, Camille Olry-Roederer, was nothing short of extraordinary. My first choice for a splendid Christmas present is something to warm the cockles of your heart, perfect to celebrate the day and then see in the New Year. A new single malt whisky from a distillery on the land where whisky was first made in 1494 is not a bad place to start. Lindores […]

Our choice of champagnes for this Christmas

This is definitely the season to be merry and no drink expresses joy better than champagne. The famous beverage is thought to have been invented by the French monk Dom Pierre Perignon in 1697 when he applied his “methode champenoise” to the wines produced at the abbey of Hautvilliers. By the late 17th century, as […]

Coppa has a definite private members’ club feel, without any members club fees. […]

9, Park Walk. London SW10 0AJ

I am a big fan of Asian food but I must admit I find tedious the fact that most restaurants seem to come out of the same design book with black and red lacquer everywhere, gold trimmings and Chinese lamps; either that or a plethora of Budas on display wherever you lay your eyes. HUŎ […]

Coffee by design

Having experienced the hospitality and the delicacies served at the Lavazza flagship store in Milan, I couldn’t wait for their London counterpart to open. Spread over three floors and located in a historical building just opposite Liberty’s in the heart of London, this is a beautifully designed space that goes far beyond our normal understanding […]

With the creation of Collection, Louis Roederer wants to write a new chapter in the history of Brut Premier, one that invites […]
