I’ve always been fond of being at sea. This year more than ever I have remembered with nostalgia long lunches on deck followed by lazy afternoons sunbathing on the bow while sipping ice-cold champagne and listening to the sound of the hull piercing through the waves.
This summer, Princess Yachts launched its X95, a new “Superfly” X Class that redefines space and architecture in yachts, delivering a unique boating lifestyle and experience at sea. Developed in collaboration with their long-standing naval architect Bernard Olesinski and legendary Italian design house Pininfarina, the X95 stands out for its beautifully sculpted surfaces, with long flowing lines that extend from bow to stern and elegant design elements such as the ribbon-like flying buttresses that reach from the rear, visually and physically connecting the flybridge to the Sky Lounge. The hull evolves the deep-V concept to provide 15% improved efficiency with outstanding stability. No need to worry about spilling your drink!

As you’d expect from Princess Yachts, the quality of the craftsmanship and materials is second to none, as it is the technology applied to the first model of their new X Class, which sets a new standard of layout excellence, defined by large, adaptable spaces that can be used and formatted in numerous ways, it offers the owner and guests a uniquely flexible boating lifestyle. In my case, that would most certainly be around entertaining and hosting.

At its core is a unique concept for the flybridge and main deck interior space, both of which cover almost the full length of the yacht, creating the Super Flybridge – the X Class defining characteristic. The layout provides 10% more outdoor and 40% more indoor space than a traditional motor yacht, making it ideal for those who wish to spend significant time aboard to explore cruising grounds further afield.
Onboarding the boat via the large teak-laid transom deck platform at the stern, get ready for your jaw to drop to the ground as you enter the main deck living area which extends to almost 18 metres. There are several configurations available but as the social bee I am, I’d go for the best option if you are going to have friends around often: massive sofa and coffee table area (complete with a servery unit), integrated drinks refrigerator and icemaker, private galley and a unique master cabin with 270º panoramic windows.
Walk up the internal staircase to the flybridge and you’ll find the fully enclosed and climate-controlled Sky Lounge which also houses the pilothouse, featuring a leather electric seat with six-way fore, aft and height adjustment and the option for an additional navigator seat (go for it, you’ll regret it if you don’t).
Just behind it, you find a large lounge area with soft seating, teak flooring and panoramic views. The area behind the Sky Lounge is massive, with a covered dining zone for eight and a large flexible space for free-standing lounge furniture. The forward flybridge is enormous too, with an inviting seating and sunbathing area. In total, the Super Flybridge stretches almost 22 metres, more than double the length you’d expect on a yacht this size.
The X95 has plenty of room on deck to enjoy and entertain…
On the lower deck, there’s storage for a Jetski, along with crew quarters, bathroom and a mess to the rear. In the centre is the Master Stateroom with large double bed, bedside tables, portside sofa and coffee table. Additional port and starboard guest cabins can each be configured as twin singles or as one double bed. Towards the front lies the Forward Stateroom complete with large double bed and walk-in wardrobe. All rooms have en suite bathrooms.
Powered by two MAN V12 engines, the X95 can reach a speed of 24-26 knots and has a fuel capacity of 13,400 litres… just in case you don’t want to be seen in quite a while. Equipped with a Naim Uniti Atom audio system with waterproof speakers, a 4K UHD TV and a DVD Blu-ray system, you really have all the facilities onboard you may wish for. Add enough champagne and good company and I don’t see why you’d feel the need to go back to land anytime soon.
