Richard Mille’s use of new material composites always had the Midas touch. The latest proof is the Richard Mille RM 74-02 Automatic Tourbillon Gold Quartz TPT®. This new exciting material is the latest out of the partnership with composite firm, North Thin Ply Technology. It took years of research to produce Gold Quartz TPT®, which has a radiant exterior that comes from the fusion of mineral and metal.

The alchemical blend, the technical resilience of Quartz TPT® with the allure of gold, is the result of a complex process where ultra-thin sheets of quartz fibres are stacked, layer upon layer, between which leaves of 5N red gold are embedded, then heated to 120° at a pressure of six bars. The result is a composite with natural striations that become visible when the curvature of the case is machined, giving rise to the pattern of the gold filaments within the white quartz. The new composite is used for the top and back bezel of the watch, the inner segment is 5N red gold.

The manufacture of the Gold Quartz TPT® with layers of quartz interleaved and fused with 5N red gold.
Inside the RM 74-02 is the in-house automatic tourbillon movement, calibre CRMT5, seen through the intricate lattice work bridge crafted from 5N red gold for the dial side. The baseplate and bridges are crafted from 3N yellow gold and black PVD titanium. The tourbillon escapement is located at 6 o’clock. The movement is powered by a red gold and platinum variable-geometry rotor that generates energy for the watch via a fast-winding barrel, providing a 50-hour power reserve.

This new Richard Mille RM 74-02 comes on a choice of straps or with a matching 5N red gold bracelet.
The new RM 74-02 Automatic Tourbillon Gold Quartz TPT® showcases Richard Mille’s preeminence in marrying the science of esoteric materials and the artistry necessary to create such a visually unique timepiece. There is a choice between different straps, and a matching open link 5N gold bracelet. From CHF519,000 excl. taxes.
