Brunch with Ridley Scott’s Mas des Infermières

The Laslett hotel brings to London the stars of the Luberon wine estate

Luxury Notting Hill townhouse hotel, The Laslett, is dialling up the star quality of its summer terrace with an alfresco brunch paired with Mas des Infermières wines, the award-winning wine estate in Northern Luberon, Provence, owned by Sir Ridley Scott GBE, known for his blockbuster masterpieces such as GladiatorBlade RunnerHouse of Gucci, and the recent Napoleon.

The labels feature illustrations designed and drawn by Ridley Scott himself. The common thread in all of them is the message of “Health, Happiness and Elegance of Provence” with a heavy emphasis on sustainability. The estate’s commitment to the environment has won it the HVE (High Environmental Value) certification and that of being recognised globally as a bee-friendly vineyard.

References to the playful branding and artwork of Mas des Infermières can be seen throughout the terrace at the Laslett, playful branding and artwork, illustrated by Ridley himself, throughout the space, and the terrace is home to a bespoke, branded wine cart, bringing the spirit of the vineyard to London.

Elements of Mas des Infermières’ playful branding and artwork are present throughout the terrace, dominated by a bespoke branded wine cart.

The brunch menu at The Laslett includes classics such as Smoked Salmon & Avocado, served on a thick sourdough toast with a poached egg, and sprinkled with pomegranate seeds. The sommelier at The Laslett recommends to pair it with Source Blanc, a light, textured white with a strong citrus accent and hints of white fruit.

Source Rosé is suggested to accompany The Henderson Toastie, a grown-up version of the heavenly toasted sandwich of our student days. Ham hock, Cheddar cheese and pickles on sourdough bread with a generous helping of mustard and of course, crisps. The pairing may sound a bit outlandish, but it works. The secret is the cleanness of the wine and its soft acidity. The berry and white fruit aromas that you pick up on the nose, continue on the palate, where Source Rosé feels silky and smooth. Very, very easy to drink. You’ve been warned.

This rosé goes also very well with hummus (which I shared with my companion when we went for brunch at The Laslett), although to be honest, the basic ingredients in this Middle Eastern dip  – chickpeas, tahini, olive oil and garlic – are very good friends of wine, so a creamy white would also be a good choice and even a red. Source Rouge would probably do well as it is a wine that highlights fresh spices, ripe black fruits, and fine, elegant tannins in its profile. From the main brunch options, the suggested pairing is with the Crispy Duck Burger, so I guess it is also has a well-structured body and intensity in the mouth.

Source Rosé by Mas des Infermières was my choice to pair with both hummus and Salmon & Avocado. The sparkling Perle du Mas was the best bed-fellow to the Full English my companion had.

Last, Mas des Infermières’ joyful non-vintage sparkling rosé, Perle du Mas. Sparkling rosé actually pairs very well with food because of its high acidity and lack of tannins. Great to cut through greasy, fried foods, and spicy dishes. Perle du Mas is intense in colour and aromatic on the nose, with subtle floral notes that transition to the palate. In the mouth, the wine is fresh with a playful hint of sweetness.

The collaboration between The Laslett and Mas des Infermiéres will transport you to the heart of Provence without leaving London. Reservations are advised. Please see HERE to make a booking. Available until 23rd August 2024.
