Bentley Flying Spur, Simply Irresistible

by Irena Tyshyna

The new Bentley Flying Spur has a more modern, softer shape. Its grace and springiness comes from the change of the wheelbase – the front wheels are now closer to the front by 130mm, shortening the overhang, creating more legroom inside and giving the car a leaner silhouette.

The new design feels more unisex and inclusive. It also delivers on both sides, for those who drive and those who are being chauffeured. The new Flying Spur brings a very distinct message – whilst continuing to cater for the core Bentley customer, the brand acknowledges and welcomes a broader caliber of new generation Bentley owners. It must be added that, whilst opening their doors to a very diverse modern day clientele – be it a young celebrity in China or a retired businessman in Germany – Bentley successfully manage to maintain the brand DNA, retaining a premium limousine feel.

This is achieved by the new chassis system. It’s positioned on three-chamber suspension springs that contain 60 percent more air volume than the original model, which only had one-chamber springs. This new adjustment, along with a 48V electric active roll control system, twin turbocharged W12 engine and a sophisticated eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, delivers a very sleek experience on all fronts, whichever type of driving you are after.

Talking about the looks, the added veins over the matrix mesh at the front elongate the face and contribute to the regal poise of the car.

We have already seen some of the features in a previous Continental GT and GTC. The new visual oomph is 3D textured, diamond shaped upholstery. It has a very distinct look, which has been developed by the craftsmen at the Crewe factory and is a world’s first, unique to new Flying Spur creation. There is an extensive list of colours to choose from in leather, and if that does not quite satisfy you, the designers have prepared a number of 3D options in wood.

To continue with the diamond shape theme, the new Flying Spur has crystal-cut LED headlights, also diamond shaped, which come as a new standard feature. The seats have optional “cathedral window quilting”, adding to the modern, sportier look. Another distinct interior feature is the Rotating Display which give you the choice of having a digital or an analogue dashboard.

And, of course, the Flying B mascot has had a significant makeover – after all, it’s Bentley’s centenary year. And what a better way of turning a 100 year page than presenting a new, first ever electronically powered, self-retracting emblem, which even has illuminated wings. The Flying B has highly responsive sensors, which protect and retract the mascot seconds away from any impact or danger of damage.
