It takes a rare breed of British audacity to transform the world’s quintessential “farmyard-to-Fifth-Avenue” SUV into a machine that rivals the price of prime real estate. Overfinch, the Yorkshire-born custodian of Range Rover customisation since 1975, has answered with a car reported to be the world’s first million-pound Range Rover. A one-of-one Holland & Holland Bespoke Commission that made its global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this July.
From Limited Edition to One-of-One: The Holland & Holland Story
The starting point was already rare enough. Last November, Overfinch unveiled the Holland & Holland Edition, a twenty-five-unit collaboration with the storied British gunmaker built around the current-generation Range Rover SV, its cabin dressed in London Tan leather and scrollwork echoing the maker’s famous shotguns. In the rear was a gun-and-drinks cabinet in walnut-and-ash “Cellarette” with room for two shotguns, plus glasses, bottle storage, and a humidor. A singular individually specified evolution created for one client alone. You can’t get any more personal than that.

Where the original edition leaned into a traditional sporting palette, the bespoke commission adopts something more poised. The exterior trades tan and gold-flecked scrollwork for a deep black finish offset by refined gold detailing, sharpening the grille, side vents, wheel design and rear finisher into something more graphic and precisely drawn. Inside, a warm ivory and black colour scheme replaces the familiar London Tan, with black piping tracing the seat architecture for a lighter, more tailored cabin.
Highlights in the One-of-One Overfinch Range Rover cabin include headrests decorated with bespoke bird embroidery, richer in colour and detail than the original edition and the rear seat centrepiece, with its deployable rear tables inlaid with handcrafted moorland marquetry.
The Holland & Holland identity runs deeper than before, too. Contrast monogram embroidery decorates the headrests, while bespoke bird embroidery, richer in colour and detail than the original edition, reinforces the vehicle’s connection to British field sports heritage. The centrepiece, though, is handcrafted moorland marquetry in the deployable rear tables that reveal a tranquil countryside scene when closed and, when opened, expand into game birds taking flight across the horizon, built entirely from selected timber veneers whose natural grain and tone create the illusion of depth and movement.

“This Bespoke Commission represents the very essence of Overfinch,” said chairman and CEO Kevin Sloane, describing five decades spent turning specification sheets into deeply personal expressions of taste and craftsmanship for clients around the world. It is a fair summary of what this car represents, not a restoration, and not quite a limited edition either, but a demonstration of what Overfinch’s specialist team can produce when working for a single international client with no numbered run to constrain them.

At a reported million pounds, this Overfinch Range Rover is not really a mean of transport (although the owner intends to use it) but evidence that handcraftsmanship, exceptional materials and fifty years of bespoke know-how can still command a premium no factory line, however luxurious, could ever match.
