Father’s Day calls for something with a little more thought than the usual last-minute bottle. Whether he leans towards a finely made gin, a serious Italian red, a crisp white for summer lunches or Champagne with real occasion value, this edit brings together drinks with personality, provenance and refinement.
PIO CESARE Barolo 2021 & Barolo Ornato 2020
Barolo 2021 is classic Piedmontese Barolo with structure, finesse and serious ageing potential. Made from Nebbiolo sourced across several Barolo villages, it brings together ripe red fruit, spice, firm tannins and a long, savoury finish. Elegant but powerful, it is the sort of bottle that feels properly special for Father’s Day. £68 | Find it at Hedonism Wines and other retailers.

Ornato 2020 is a more intense single-vineyard expression from the Ornato site in Serralunga d’Alba. A fuller-bodied, more muscular wine and built for patience. Expect deep red fruit, mineral notes, wild herbs, firm tannins and impressive length. It is a serious collector’s Barolo, produced in small quantities and made to age beautifully. £117 | Find it at Decantalo and other retailers.
LA RAIA Gavi Pisé and Gavi Riserva
Pisé is the estate’s cru Gavi, made from Cortese grown in its historic vineyards in Piedmont. It has the freshness expected of Gavi, but with more depth and energy: citrus, pear, honeysuckle and a gentle honeyed note, carried by a clean mineral line. It is an elegant, well-structured white profound minerality that goes very well with seafood, fresh cheeses and salads. £38 | Available at Passione Vino and other retailers.

Riserva is a more serious, textured expression of Gavi, made from 100 percent Cortese grapes from the estate’s La Madonnina vineyard. Biodynamically farmed and aged on fine lees, it balances citrus freshness and mineral lift with a smoother, more layered palate. Think green apple, lemon, almond, honeyed notes and a chalky finish. It is still crisp and elegant, but with enough depth to work beautifully with white fish, seafood pasta or a Father’s Day lunch. £30 | Available at Hedonism Wines and other retailers.
AUREUS VITA GIN
A bold, luxurious gin shaped by John Hall’s pioneering Fibonacci-Hall distillation method, which applies the Golden Ratio to botanical balance, extraction and dilution. Produced just once a year, when juniper and baobab are at their freshest, its 61.8 percent ABV and remarkable flavour concentration create a viscous, layered spirit with length, structure and citrus-edged complexity.

Best enjoyed chilled, sipped slowly, or in a very dry, freezer-cold Martini with 60ml Aureus Gin, 5ml dry vermouth and a twist of lemon. £175 | Buy it directly from Aureus Vita.
LOUIS ROEDERER VINTAGE 2018
A finely balanced, gastronomic Champagne from a widely praised vintage, with 80 percent Pinot Noir from Verzenay and 20 percent Chardonnay. It combines ripe orchard fruit, crisp apple, brioche, fine mousse and Roederer’s signature chalky precision, finishing with a clean, saline freshness.

A lovely Father’s Day bottle for roast chicken, white fish, shellfish, gougères or lightly marinated seafood. £74 | From The Finest Bubble and other retailers.
BOLLINGER PN TX20
This distinctive Blanc de Noirs Champagne is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir, led by fruit from the Tauxières terroir and based on the 2020 harvest. Rich, vinous and finely structured, it opens with citrus, lemon, peach and quince, followed by redcurrant freshness, subtle stewed fruit and flinty mineral notes.

A characterful Father’s Day bottle for smoked salmon, lobster, white fish in light sauces, roast poultry or soft cheeses. £82 | From The Finest Bubble and other retailers.
Whether opened over lunch, saved for a special dinner or slipped into the drinks cabinet for a future toast, these bottles make Father’s Day feel a little more special. From gin with real presence to age-worthy reds, elegant whites and Champagne with character, each one is a gift he can genuinely savour.
