World class golfing in the Indian Ocean

William Cowper’s well-known proverb, “Variety is the very spice of life”, was actually preceded by Aphra Behn. In her play, The Rover (1651), she coined the phrase: “Variety is the soul of pleasure”. Prior to Behn, Euripides argued that “a change is always nice” in Orestes. These pedigrees of linguistic talent were unified with the idea that we all need our multifarious experiences to make life more exciting.

Its location, landscape and layered history means that Mauritius meets all the requirements as a destination where to realise one’s dreams of self-indulgence. The island – one of the largest in the Indian Ocean – can be defined by its diversity, which also reflects in the richness of its culture and the hospitality of its people. As a Mauritian company, Beachcomber – the longest-running and most luxurious hotel group here – understands the importance of variety, with their eight resorts offering a huge choice of world class luxury experiences that range from thrilling scuba-diving to breath-taking mountain hiking and all kinds of spa treatments.

Paradis Beachcomber and its sister resort Dinarobin Beachcomber share a 5 km…

Aristocratic chic in the heart of South Kensington

The Pelham Hotel has been attracting tourists and locals alike ever since it opened its doors in 1989, on the site of three large white-stucco-fronted Victorian townhouses, a few steps from South Kensington tube station. I, personally, have been a regular since I could order a G&T without being asked to show my ID. From […]

Christmas at the most iconic hotel in Lake Como

The sky over Lake Como is as silvery as a turtle dove, the surrounding mountains are disguised in fog, and the emerald lawns of the Villa d’Este glisten in the light rain. Welcome to winter, far removed from the linen-clad, Panama-hatted, Persol-shaded playtimes that have made this place dolce vita ground zero for the past […]

Ananda Resort

If you feel permanently exhausted, you’re not alone. An estimated 45 per cent of us suffer from a chronic lack of sleep and know all too well how profoundly it affects our well-being. I haven’t slept well since before the anxiety-inducing disruption of the pandemic, and even though life is back to normal, my circadian […]

The Other House South Kensington gets personal

Mash-ups of the seemingly incongruent have occasionally resulted in miraculous, delightful and otherwise unanticipated combinations. Country-rock music, salted caramels, the iPod-plus-the-mobile-phone: they combine the best of the two and eliminate the rest. Imagine, then, what accommodation away from home would be if you dream of the convenience and facilities of hotels, the regularity and security […]

Reach the peak of perfection in Kitzbühel

Austrian skiing legend Hans Gmoser got it right when he famously declared that “a person should have wings to carry them where their dreams go, but sometimes a pair of skis makes a good substitute”.  Dreams can come true in magical Kitzbühel where the skiing is not just extraordinary but iconic. An Alpine experience like […]
