Dynamic, agile and lush – the world’s fastest SUV


    Driving the new Bentley Bentayga Speed is certainly a no joke experience and it takes you by surprise. Why wouldn’t it? You don’t expect a 2.5 tonnes beast to have the agility and the roar of a racing car.

    The Speed will clock up 62mph in just 3.9 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the standard model. It’s also 3mph faster at the top speed than the regular Bentayga, officially claiming the title for the world’s fastest SUV and beating its closest rival, the Lamborghini Urus, by 0.5mph.

    The Bentayga Speed gives a solid and stable ride, even on the sharpest of corners. The carbon-ceramic brakes, one of the optional extras, will help shave off those mph in no time. They are also 44 pound lighter than the standard iron brakes, giving considerable advantage in weight as well as performance. Though, it would be good to see them move from the extras list to the standard feature given that Bentley wants to offer a Dynamic Drive experience.

    Other exclusive extras include 22-way adjustable front seats with massage function, mood lighting, rear-seat entertainment system. These are just a few things from a long list of optional extras before you move on to the bespoke features page.

    The Sport mode has been recalibrated to enhance response from the W12 engine and the eight-speed automatic gearbox, as well as the tighter suspension. The aim was to achieve a springier ride when in Sport mode and, well, it certainly does what it says on the tin.

    The Bentayga Speed has given a dynamic look on the inside too: An illuminated treadplate, Speed badging and a new contrasting stitching add to the overall sporty look of the car. Bentley also introduced an exclusive new to Bentayga feature – Alcantara microfibre upholstery.

    Nonetheless, even with the more aggressive features and the nippier attitude the Speed retains its supreme, elegant, signature Bentley feel and is effortless to drive. Whether you are on the hard shoulder of the Anglsey track or going full tilt on the straight stretch of the road, it feels snug, stable and premium.

    This model is £20,000 more expensive than the standard Bentayga. Your personal lifestyle will determine whether it’s an expense or an investment. But sure enough it’s an exciting enhancement and will turn any drive into an experience.
